Dytisidae have hind legs adapted for swimming, with long hairs. The hind and mid legs are longer and narrower than the front legs, often with long spurs.The males have wide front tarsi with suction pads.

Wing

Diving beetles have large hind wings with a reduced venation. It is mainly the males that fly, and nearly always at night.
