Leg with/without claw

The upper leg region has no distinctive features. The empodium is enlarged and bears long hairs.

Wing

The second anal vein does not reach the costal wing margin.The wing is frequently patterned with dark markings.

Antenna

The antenna have 14 similar segments and are non-plumose. The segments are rather compressed and relatively squat (the antenna is shorter than those of other Nematocera)
